This may be a personal preference choice, or easier to read .Several pages will be kept with dark background, even in the "pale mode". It may also be found that the dark background version is fine at night, b ut the light bacground is best by day, or at other times when there is a high level of ambient light; please experiment with this. Some computers or monitors may display text on a dark background with insufficient clarity for easy reading. Some colours may be rendered differently, so that parts are difficult to see against the background colour. If the light text on dark background is hard to read, try the light coloured background version. (This does not affect data pages after the password, already light coloured).
The thin flat LCD screens fitted to laptops, and now increasingly used on desktop computers, give the clear sharp text needed for easy reading of light on dark text, and also render photos sharper. This web sight has been created on a Macintosh G4 Titanium Powerbook, with 15 inch LCD screen. Significant differences, text and pictures not as sharp, and significant colour variation from the original site design, are evident using a CRT monitor.
